North of Thailand, in the small isolated village of Pong Noi, is the organization Chai Lai Sisters. It is the first women self-managed trekking company in the Karen ethnic minority. It is possible to sleep in very comfortable bamboo huts with great attention to details.
A stay at Chai Lai Sisters is the perfect opportunity to meet the elephants and enjoy nature through hiking and bamboo rafting in the nearby waterfalls. Chai Lai Sisters guides are well acquainted with the region, offering different activities adapted to the visitors’ interests. The enchanting setting of the place, with the bamboo huts and the nearby river, offers an ideal place to rejuvenate.
The profits generated by staying at Chai Lai Sisters provide funding for Daughters Rising, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help women of the Karen ethnic minority. The aim is to prevent trafficking and human and sexual exploitation and to break the intergenerational poverty cycle. Daughters Rising thus funds the community’s school, offers university scholarships, creates technology workshops and clinics on women’s rights, health, self-defence, self-confidence and leadership. The organization also supports Karen villages in the region, through donations of medicines, clothing, blankets, mosquito nets and water filters.
The accommodation package includes one night and full-board for 2 guests.
