Cambodia, Kampong Cham Province, Cheung Kok Village
(July 2026 – April 2027)
Local Partner : AMICA (International Mediation Assistance)
Impact
Relaunch and promotion of a sustainable and inclusive community-based tourism offer that is economically viable and socially equitable, directly benefiting local communities. Promotion of the active participation of young people and women in the implementation of activities and the distribution of economic benefits. Integration of digital tools adapted to the rural context to improve the visibility and promotion of the village.
Target population
The project is expected to directly reach approximately 50 people, 70% of whom are women and 30% young people (18–35 years old). All beneficiaries are residents of Cheung Kok (Cambodia). The project also indirectly benefits more than 350 people within the community (family members of direct beneficiaries, students benefiting from courses offered through the community fund, etc.).
Objectives
Foster the creation and consolidation of local jobs, particularly for young people and women;
Promote the area’s cultural, agricultural, and handicraft heritage;
Integrate simple and accessible digital tools (geolocated routes, QR codes, communication materials) to enhance the visitor experience while respecting local capacities;
Ensure stronger community governance based on the active participation of residents and the equitable redistribution of benefits;
Contribute to the visibility of the Francophonie through the sustainable funding of French language education in the village Sala, made possible through a share of the revenues generated by tourism activities.
Actions
The project includes the following activities :
The structuring and diversification of 6 to 8 tourism products (accommodation, tours, handicrafts, agricultural activities, cooking classes, etc.);
The implementation of a self-guided, geolocated route featuring at least 10 points of interest and QR codes, as well as the production of a flyer (print and digital);
The creation of a community restaurant with approximately 20 seats through light renovations and the acquisition of essential equipment;
Significant strengthening of communication and visibility efforts;
The development of at least 5 partnerships with inbound travel agencies and river operators in Cambodia;
The implementation of a participatory coordination mechanism, including a village steering committee and the mobilization of an International Solidarity Volunteer (VSI).
This initiative is made possible with the support of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie through the Destination Éco-Talents program.
