Captain Hook Homestay
Located 90 km from Pakse, Mr. Hook’s homestay hosts up to 5 visitors in the heart of the self-sufficient village of Kok Phoung Tai, where 750 members of the Katu community are living, and Mr Hook is the only local anglophone. The accommodation consists of a family coffee plantation in the Bolaven Plateau in Southern Laos.
While experiencing the village’s daily life, you can visit several plantations and find coffee, rice, cassava, pineapple, peanuts or medicinal plants. You can also go on trek, visit the nearby waterfalls, always guided by Mr. Hook. Food comes from the village plantations and served on bamboo dishes from the jungle nearby. You will meet Mr. Hook’s family and relatives who are very open to meetings with travellers. You will share meals with the family in Hook’s own house. You may have the opportunity to attend ceremonies according to the shaman’s decision. You will also be able to take part in sports activities with the villagers, provided that the village rules are respected.
Mr. Hook has introduced an entrance fee to the village that are returning directly to the villagers. Part of the income is placed in a common fund to finance school uniforms and the needs of the community.
