Otammari Lodge, La Perle de l’Atakora
In Northern Benin, in the heart of Somba Country, there is a small town called Koussoukoingou, overhanging the unique landscape of Atakora range. In a beautiful setting, between baobabs and tatas somba, the community development association, la Perle d’Atakora, with the support of Eco-Bénin, has developed a welcoming lodge integrated into the local architecture. Tatas somba are very original small traditional houses made of red dirt. They represent a real heritage in this region.
This initiative has started few years ago when a guide from the village, Mr. Parfait Promaté, suggested to travelers to sleep in traditional tatas somba. Since then, it is possible to spend a night there, or simply visit this original accommodation and share a piece of local life.
The entire village benefits from travelers passing by: the owners of tatas somba, the farmers, the guides, the cooks and multiple employees. An original and efficient formula of income and profits distribution ensures that the whole community benefits from the tourist activity. There is also a community fund powered by this initiative.
The accommodation package includes breakfast for 2 people.
