Women's Economic Empowerment, Green and Agroecological Entrepreneurship In the Aymara Communities of Jesus de Machaca, Bolivia

Impact

Empowerment of Aymara women through training in agroecology and green entrepreneurship, as well as raising awareness of gender equality, inclusive governance and “Buen vivir”. 

Target Population

  • 500 people will be directly affected by the project and 1,500 indirectly. 

  • The direct beneficiaries of the project will be the indigenous Aymara producers of the Jesús de Machaca municipalities, the majority of whom will be women. The beneficiaries will be divided into 200 women over 18, 100 girls under 18, 100 men over 18 and 100 boys under 18, making a total of 500 direct beneficiaries. 

  • The participation of men and boys in the project’s activities is key to activating change in society, promoting the establishment and development of green businesses run by women, as well as the sustainability and anchoring of sustainable practices for safeguarding and revaluing the Aymara bio-cultural and food heritage.  

Objectives

  • Train and raise awareness among women and local stakeholders of the importance of healthy eating, agroecological production and the valorization of Andean food and socio-cultural heritage
  • Strengthen and revalorize the leadership and management of women with agroecological enterprises, for equitable, inclusive and sustainable management of natural resources and local biodiversity.  
  • Establish access to training and exchange spaces for women on bio-cultural leadership and the implementation of agroecological enterprises (change agents & agroecological leaders).  
  • Provide access to advice, support and incentives for the design, implementation and management of agroecological and sociocultural green businesses (community tourism). 

Actions

The project includes the following activities

  • Training in agroecology, leadership, gender equality and Buen Vivir; in the use of solar cookers and agroecological nutrition; distribution of 500 copies of an adapted recipe booklet on the use of solar cookers and the importance of agroecological nutrition; training in business design. 
  • Awareness-raising events for local players; agroecological fair and exchange of experience and products
  • Coaching and setting up of solar cooker enterprises, agroecological and food enterprises (dairy production, pastry-making) as well as socio-cultural heritage enhancement enterprises (community tourism).
