Rehabilitation of the AINA VAO Community Lodge

Impact

Economic empowerment of rural women in Andasibe through the rehabilitation of an association house into a community lodge, combining solidarity-based accommodation, the promotion of local skills and knowledge, and a space for exchanges for women and young people.

Target population

The project will directly benefit the 11 members of the AINA VAO association, 10 local artisans, farmers, and facilitators, as well as 30 women and young people from the village, who will have access to a community space dedicated to meetings, workshops, and cultural activities.

Indirectly, the benefits will reach 44 families of association members, 100 families of young people and farmers, and approximately 300 national and international travelers.

Objectives

Rehabilitate the AINA VAO association’s community house to create a functional and welcoming community lodge.
Generate sustainable income for rural women through solidarity-based tourism, handicrafts, agriculture, and cultural activities.
Develop a community space dedicated to exchanges, training, documentation, and the promotion of local knowledge and skills.
Strengthen Andasibe as a destination for sustainable, cultural, and solidarity-based tourism.

Actions

The project includes the following activities :

Conduct a technical assessment of the building.
Fully rehabilitate the lodge: roof, walls, bedrooms, sanitary facilities, kitchen, furniture, and interior spaces.
Develop a community space for women and young people.
Establish an internal management committee.
Launch community, cultural, and tourism activities.
Promote local agricultural and handicraft products, as well as local knowledge and skills.

The lodge will be integrated into MATOR’s “Andasibe Autrement: A Stay Between Nature and Culture” program, which highlights local farming and handicraft skills, as well as the area’s cultural heritage.

This initiative is made possible with the support of the Louise Grenier Foundation.
