Solidary Exploration in Indigenous Lands in Mexico, in Partnership With Red Indígena de Turismo de México Asociación Civil (RITA)

  • Explorer: Rafael Forteza
  • Teotihuacan and Marquelia communities
  • Nahua and Afro-Mexican communities

Context

From October 28 to November 26, 2024, I’ll be traveling to Mexico as part of Village Monde’s Solidary Exploration program, in partnership with RITA. This mandate will lead me to meet indigenous tourism initiatives and contribute to the development of sustainable tourism that benefits both communities and travelers in search of authenticity.

Concretely, my tasks will be to analyze the existing tourism offer, certify the accommodations and activities based on their socio-economic and environmental impact (Village Monde Label) and then create content to contribute to their promotion and to the collective memory of the communities.

Words About the Explorer

My name is Rafael Forteza. I’m a 25-year-old biologist. I pursued studies in this field because I love flowers, but also (rather more importantly) because nature fascinates me with its amazing creativity. In general, I just hope to do my bit to maintain and cherish our connection with the ecosystems that surround us.

Another facet of my life is travel and intercultural sharing. Ever since I was a child, I’ve been visiting my family in Argentina. Loving people from one end of the Americas to the other has nurtured my taste for encounters with people from diverse backgrounds. My curiosity soon led me to set off to discover little-known countries and cultures with the simple intention of meeting and exchanging with people. Each time, I’m amazed at how much we share despite the distances that separate us.

Carrying out this exploration mandate with Village Monde is an opportunity for me to pursue what I’ve always loved doing, forging links with people and exciting ecosystems around the world. It’s a real pleasure to be able to put my little life experience to good use for a worthy cause like this. I hope, through this mission, to be able to contribute as best I can to cultivating the bonds that unite us all!

Mandate Objectives

  • Label 5 accommodations and some 15 activities
  • Create content (visual, written) to promote the network’s tourism initiatives
  • Create photo content linked to the traditional cultural practices of the communities visited, to contribute to the collective memory of the communities.
  • Particularly in Marquelia: participate in local turtle conservation project

What the Explorer Is Looking For

Funding of $1000 by October 20, 2024 to cover part of the exploration costs:

  • A daily per diem of 56 USD covering meals, lodging and activities for 28 days
  • An amount of 92 USD to cover transportation costs
  • For a total of 1660 USD > approximately 2240 CAD$.

Result: $450 raised!
